29 Oct – Trek day 4 – Phu to himlung base camp – 4885m
4200m – 4885m
Morning screw up, after a night snowing the mountains and the village are covered in snow and some of the porters decide to turn around afraid of the risks of Avalanche. Mules need to be loaded more to make up for the extra equipment. Junga (base camp manager) does not inform us of the problem and late departure which annoys most of us. It’s not cool to be kept in the dark when such a situation is happening. Mostly the accumulation of screw ups from the organisation team since the beginning of the trip are starting to pile up and it gives us a mixed feeling on what is to come.
And from this afternoon onwards we are on the Mountain where problems and mistakes have bigger impacts. This is what worries us. Patrick and I talk to junga on the way up to base camp and clearly tell him that he needs to step up the organisation. Then we inform Chris and ask him to help us double check all the equipment and what has been confirmed by adventure peaks. It’s really important that we get what we agreed.
We arrive at base camp and fortunately all our tents are setup on a nice and flat area. Florence and Glenn arrived about an hour earlier and have settled in. The Sherpas greet us and shake our hands congratulating us for making it to base camp. There is a nice and unusual atmosphere. Some other climbers are coming down the mountain, we are arriving and rejoicing to have made it here 6 days after our departure from Kathmandu.
So far no headache, but i am still taking aspirin and the homeopathic Coca pills that apparently help for altitude.
We have all unpacked in our tents. A lite sound of snow can be heard from inside the tents. The Nepalese crew is setting up the rest of our camp: mess tent, kitchen tent, all the safety and emergency equipment. It’s a huge undertaking.
All of us: Patrick, Glenn, Xavier, Florence and Chris are resting in our own tents.
