Casual running & Motorsports in Japan

No special training for races these past few weeks after the Saikung 50 ultra. It’s just back into more casual ‘lifestyle’ training. Some swimming, a little cycling, some weight training and the usual ‘much easier to do anywhere’ running.

To me, nothing compares to the freedom given by running especially while traveling abroad on business. I have spent the past few days in Japan in Himeji (close to Osaka), Okayama international circuit for the SuperGT testing and now Tokyo for a few follow-up meetings.

During the past few days I squeezed in a couple of runs downtown Himeji and downtown Tokyo. It’s a fantastic way to start a business day, to discover a little of the local culture and to get rid of the few almost mandatory beers drunk with clients at dinner time. I would have liked to run around Okayama International Circuit but we stayed too far away from the track.

I met Jenson Button (former Formula 1 world champion) at the track however. He is racing in this season’s SuperGT 500 category in a Honda NSX. I couldn’t resist not to tell him that I ‘raced’ alongside him at the IRONMAN 70.3 world championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee in September 2017. What he doesn’t know is that I sort of ‘beat’ him since I finished the race while he did not. Never thought I would get a chance to beat a formula 1 driver. Working in the motorsport industry, I have to say that it’s quite the honor!
