28 Oct – Trek day 3 – Kyang to Phu – 4100m
Probably the most beautiful trek on this trip so far. Canyons and rock formations towering over us.
The start of the path is treacherous with a huge drop to our left overlooking a river and deep canyon. Half way in the trek, we come across a rock fall couloir, we wait patiently until lakpa Sherpa tells us we can go then suddenly an avalanche of rocks and smoke towers down. Patrick and lakpa turn back and run towards us. We wait longer until the way is clear and finally sprint through the section. It’s then a very steep climb to the gate of Phu which reveals a beautiful scenery and a fort built hundreds of years ago during some Nepal Tibet war.
We pass a herd of yaks and goats, Xavier and i walk slowly and take pictures of the amazing scenery. We wait at the suspended bridge crossing to film and observe the 29 mules crossing with the expeditions equipment.
Once we arrive at Phu, rest, lunch and afternoon aclim walk to the top of the village with Patrick and Florence. Early night, the last one in a lodge.
