Exped Day 1 (part 2): Steep Glacier landing
The plane (Otter skiplane) flies past Denali. Lian, the female pilot, nicely turns the plane so both side can see the stunning views of North Americas giant. It’s a beautiful day, sunny as we land on the Glacier after a steep descent. Skis are down and we glide on the snow. Welcome to basecamp says Lian with a big smile. She used to be a mountain guide and guided many trips to Denali. She jumps out of the plane and we start to unload the hundreds of kilos of equipment, food, sleds, duffle bags, shovels, wands and backpacks.
We pick a location to build our camp and start setting up the tents.
Dinner of pasta. Quick briefing on the day to come and back in the tents for our first night on kalhetna glacier, the biggest Glacier of North America, 47 miles last long!
Its 930pm and totally bright outside, as we are very close to the arctic circle, but I fall asleep immediately in our -8c tent.
