Exped day 8: BRUTAL

May 12

Weather: sun and clouds
Altitude: 3300 to 4300
Time climbing: 6h13

(Pix of Xavier holding my monster pack before a 6 hour climb)

Most brutal day so far. Carrying everything up to camp 3, Basin Camp in monster sized backpacks. This is the gateway to the high part of the mountain through a steep couloir with fixed ropes.

The way up to camp 3 was incredibly hard, the weight of the packs was unreal. We made the entire trip in 6 hours with over 30kg on our backs and increasing altitude, impairing our breathing.

There are about 80 people at camp 3 now from everywhere around the world. So far we have met some French, Argentinians, Americans, and 2 cool dudes Dave and Mike, doing a ‘sea to summit’ expedition from Anchorage to the top of Denali, fascinating challenge, running from the sea to the top of the mountain. Check this out.

We are treated to the most incredible views once we reach Camp 3, our home for the next….many days.
