Yotei, second try
Nice day today, 5am wake up, 7am we are off on the trail after I forgot my poles at home and Pat and Xav went to pick them up while I kept the gear.
Weather is overcast but a few rays of sun appear here and there. Amazing view as we gain in altitude.
Quickly we add the crampons to our skis and snowboard as the mountain is icy. A section is too steep and we have to remove the boards all together and climb up.
4hours going up. We stop for lunch. We recharge. And decide to turn around. Too steep and too icy. The way down is tough on snowboards, bumps and ice.
6 hours on the mountain, a fantastic day, beautiful views, gained in experience.
We are back in town for lunch. Tomorrow we try without skis and boards but with all the extra gear: crampons, ice axe, ice screws, rope, harnesses. Mike & Tina have been a great support team, lending us gear and following us on our WhatsApp Yotei safety group along with Sarah.
