Day 14: the last 2 climbers

Today one more rest day, recovering from the carry to the 5000m cache on the ridge up the fix lines.

We have been wondering for a few days how our expedition would carry on. Marc has been sick and has been struggling to recover at altitude. After going back and forth on the logistics, the decision is made, Marc is leaving tomorrow with Chelsea and Eric, back to base camp and Talkeetna.

It’s only Kai, Xavier and me remaining for this expedition. We were 9 planned expedition members, we are now 2 for the final push. It’s surreal. Commitment, fitness, stamina are at the core of a Denali expedition. And when I think about the past few months of Xav’s life, its been a roller-coaster with: change of jobs, change of country, moving back and forth and he still managed to commit, train and plan for this expedition. Now that its only us 2 remaining, I realise how exceptional Xav’s commitment has been.
