Keep in mind that this happens only at high altitude after being bored out of our minds playing the waiting game for summit attempt…why team Shrimp? well actually we needed to find a name to yell ‘Anchor’ and ‘Climbing’ for the fixed ropes section the next day. So basically a 1 syllable easy to hear, easy to pronounce name of something different, that we wouldn’t mind eating right now, ‘team shrimp’ was born.

So basically, for the coming rope sequence it would go like this:

“Anchor Shrimp”, the lead climber would easily identify that the person yelling ‘ Shrimp’ was his teammate and could then stop to let him unclip and clip back into the new rope section. This works well when there are many teams on the same ropes and everyone is yelling ‘Anchor’ or  ‘Anchor John’ or any other leader name for that matter. As it is very hard to recognize the voice of your teammates in the mountain ‘Anchor Shrimp’ was a winner, as no-one goes by the name ‘Shrimp’ in real life, at least as far as I know.
